Planting lily of the valley is the secret to a low maintenance groundcover that's hardy in Zones 2 to 7.
Lily of the valley craves shade. Moist, well-drained soil that's rich in organic matter yields finest growth, but this groundcover is versatile, adapting to any soil — clay, sand, acidic or dry. The one thing it can't stand is solid, all day sun or hot, dry conditions.
Tuck plants into soil in spring when every danger of frost is past, or in fall, as soon as you obtain them, or refrigerate them up to 2 weeks.
